“Courageous Faith”

“Courageous Faith”

Do you read the Bible like it’s an ancient history book?  If so, let me suggest 2 things:  First, treat yourself to a modern translation of the Bible — for example, the Contemporary English version reads like a good novel.  Second, read the Bible as if God is talking directly to you because He is!  His Word (the Bible) is a love letter to each of us, from a father to His children.  The Bible is primarily written for believers and it’s full of the promises of God.  We are entitled to so many blessings, simply because Jesus died on the cross and rose again.  But, and this is a BIG but — the promises found in the Word won’t work for you unless you believe it.  My Pastor uses Joshua an example to illustrate this point.  Following the death of Moses, Joshua had to step up as a leader and bring the Israelites to the Promised Land.  Was he nervous?  I’m sure of it.  But, God jumped in and reminded him of a few promises:

Joshua 1:3-8 (NIV)
I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses…  No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life.  As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them… Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Something to think about: “I don’t walk by feelings, I walk by faith” — an awesome quote from my Pastor.  I think I’m going to write this one on a sticky note and pop it on the refrigerator.  We have to remember that having courageous faith, means trusting God no matter how we feel or what we see!
