Have you ever made a promise to someone, but noticed the person is doubtful or skeptical that you will keep it?  Maybe you promise your kids a special gift on their birthday, yet they keep asking over and over and over again if you’re going to get it for them. Or maybe you promise to take your sweetie out on a special date and all you get is a “yeah, right” in return.   Pretty hurtful right?  Well, this is how God feels when He makes a promise to us and we don’t believe him.  It’s as if we’ve lost our hope in Him.

We must always have hope.  It is a sin to take something that the Lord has told you and to cast it away as if He never said it.  When you don’t have hope that means you don’t have faith in God.  You can’t have faith if you don’t have hope.

Hebrews 11:1, 6 (NIV)
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see… And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Love is the substance of faith.  Love is the evidence of faith.

1 Corinthians 13:7-8 (NIV)
(Love) It never fails.  But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will ne stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Is it possible for faith to fail? Yes, here’s an example of the Lord praying for a disciple not to fail in this area.  But, love never fails!

Luke 22:31-32 (NIV)
“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.  But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail.  And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

We must have a clean and pure heart in order for your faith to grow.  Here are 3 things that clean us up:

1) Word:  Wash yourself with the word of God. You have to know the scriptures for yourself!  Faith comes by hearing and hearing comes from the word of God.

2) Blood:  the blood of Jesus keeps you clean.  We are protected as born-again believers.

3) Fire: this is what tests your faith (challenges, disappointments, etc).  Tribulation will burn off everything of you that isn’t of God.

Something to think about: The devil may not be stealing as much from you as you think, you may be giving it to him!  If God made a promise to you, He will do it!  The Lord doesn’t make a promise He can’t keep.
