“How to Handle Success”

“How to Handle Success”

There are little things that you do that please God and He wants to bless you. But, we have to remain humble when God gives us success.

2 Chronicles 26:5-6 (NIV)
(story of Uzziah, who became King at just 16 years old)

“He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success.”

God wants us to realize that He is reason for our success.  Once we achieve a certain level of success, status, attention… we brush God to the side.  We forget so quickly how things used to be.  Don’t despise small beginnings. God wants you to remember how far He’s brought you!  The devil will try to tell you: You’re the star (all that and a bag of chips with a soda on the side!!), so brush your shoulders off  because you don’t need God anymore.  So wrong, so wrong….

(That’s what happened to Uzziah)

2 Chronicles 26:18-19 (NIV)

“They (the priests) confronted him and said, ‘It is not right for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord. That is for the priests… Leave the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful; and you will not be honored by the Lord God.’ Uzziah, who had a censer in his hand ready to burn incense, became angry. While he was raging at the priests in their presence before the incense altar in the Lord’s temple, leprosy broke out on his forehead.”

Something to think about: Pride is always going to be an issue in our lives. We are human and pride is a part of human nature.  But, we’ve got to ask the Lord to help us keep it under control.  Can you show hospitality? Can you receive a message from someone who’s “not on your level?” God says He will send His Word through an unlikely source.  Just as quickly as God gives you success, He can take it away.  Be humble, be gracious, and keep Him first in all that you do!
Can you handle what God gives you without abusing that power or influence? Think about it…

  1. Very good lesson on being humble. You are so correct in stating that He is the reason for our success. I do believe that we are blessed to be a blessing to others.
To whom much is given, much is required.

Your lessens are truly a blessing to me. Continue to keep up the good work.
